I opened to this while I was taking a lunch break today. I encourage you to read the entire chapter, I will not quote the entire thing because of length and time. But here are a few things that stuck out to me.
"For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous."v3
If we really love God (a passion), we will do whatever He asks of us. And what He does ask of us, will not be grievous, because we are doing it out of our great love for Him! Everything we do should be driven out of our love for Him and not just because He said, because that is when it becomes grievous.
"Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?"v5
"He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself:"v10
"And this is the confidence that we have in him, that if we ask anything according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him." v14-15
Isn't it such a comfort to know that He hears us? Also, having that confidence that when we ask Him something, if it is according to His will, he hears us! I think that is something that so often times I lack. If He doesn't answer my prayers right away, I can sometimes stop praying about it, or still pray for it, but in my heart believe that it won't happen. But have CONFIDENCE in Him! He can see the entire picture!!!! He knows that sometimes if we get our answer to our prayer immediately, we won't appreciate it as much, or it will effect us in a negative way. See that is what is so awesome about Him!! He can see that and He spares us from it!!! Even though we don't understand and it may hurt for a short period of time.
