Operation Desert Complete

Yesterday we hike 700 miles and shortly thereafter walkes into Kennedy Meadows. KM is the official start of the Sierra's! Goodbye to the unbearable heat....that we never got... Seriously, though. It rained close to half of the day's I have been on trail so far!! So much for "it never rains in the desert." Also as it turns out, it can get quite cold in the desert! Even sleeting or snowing!! So while I enjoyed my time, I am happy to bid this "desert" farwell.

Our plan is to zero today and tomorrow to prepare mentally and logisticly for the Sierra's. As some of you might know, the Sierras had a really high snowfall this winter. In fact a week or so ago they had another snow! However, there has been hikers making it through. And more and more are feeling more comfortable heading in. The most dangerous part will be the river crossings, which will likely get more dangerous if we wait for more snow to melt.

What this means is that we are gearing up! We all will be taking an ice axe and microspikes. Along with warmer clothes. Plus a bear canister, since it's required through much of the Sierra's. This will make our packs alot heavier. Also, due to snow travel, we will be doing a lot less miles.

I am heading in with my group "Froth squad." There are 9 of us all together. We will have a three emergency call devices amongst us and will always be buddied up.

This all may sound a bit scary and dangerous. It is to an extent, which is why we are placing precautions in place. However, it's also quite doable and as of now, we feel that the risk is manageable. So all you mothers, please do not worry excessively.😉

Now for a massive photo dump....

Hiker Town is this place that was used as a set for scenes in various movies. You can "rent" a building (room) for the night. It was a great place to chill before hiking the LA Aqueduct.

They let us drive Ole Bessy to the store. Seriously, the sketchiest thing I have ever driven or riden in...

Heading out to night hike the LA Aqueduct

We stopped under this bridge for a ciesta and then it started raining...so we ended up camping out here for the night. We slept up on the wall because there was some flash flooding going on....thankfully the middle section wasnt as bad.

This guy was so cute and little!! Almost completely missed him as I was walking by!

An incredible sunset at the end of a 35 mile day!!

First glimpse of the Sierra's!!!!😃😃

A sub made right... #hikerhunger

At the Walmart in Ridgecrest. We were total hiker trash, hanging out in the foyer for a good portion of the day because it was over 100 degrees out!!

When you ciesta for several hours to escape the heat. Welcome to the Hiker Trash Cinema. Today's showings include Black Mare and The Office
